Talks, Teaching & Leadership

The parts of the work that involve other people — students, conference attendees, and members of the public who have never met a robot before.

Teaching

Coursework from AuE8230: simulation in ROS Noetic, then the same behaviour deployed on a TurtleBot3 Burger.

Graduate robotics courses, Clemson University

  • AuE8230 — Autonomy: Science and Systems. ROS Noetic simulation coursework paired with deployment on real TurtleBot3 Burger hardware, so students had to deal with the gap between the two rather than reading about it.
  • AuE8220 — Autonomy: Mobility and Manipulation. Foundational robotics: kinematics, mobility and manipulation.

Teaching is where I learned that if you can't explain why a transform is wrong without drawing the frame twice, you probably don't understand it yourself yet.

Outreach and talks

Presenting at the Innoventure Futures Festival in Greenville, South Carolina

Innoventure Futures Festival

Presented Clemson University's research and industry partnership opportunities at the annual Innoventure Futures Festival — an audience of students, families and local industry rather than fellow researchers, which is a genuinely different talk to give.

Demonstrating autonomous robots at Auto Tech Day

Auto Tech Day

Demonstrated autonomous robots and driverless vehicle research from the Automation, Mechatronics and Robotics Laboratory (ARM Lab) — live hardware demos, with all the risk that implies, in front of a public audience.

Leadership

IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Student Activities Committee

Conference Co-Chair, IEEE RAS Student Activities Committee

Organized student events at ICRA and IROS as Co-Chair of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Student Activities Committee — coordinating across organizers, volunteers and attendees at the two largest conferences in the field.

Cross-organization collaboration with NVIDIA Robotics

Partnered directly with NVIDIA's robotics team on integration and hardware bring-up for real-time 3D scene reconstruction, then published a complete public guide so the setup is reproducible. See the project →
